O-RAN as an Enabler for Energy Efficiency in 5G Networks
2022-05-02
In this blog post, we provide a general overview of ways to improve EE in contemporary mobile networks. This is followed up by some representative examples of algorithms aiming at EE optimization at different levels, with a focus on the utilization of ML techniques. We then put it in the context of O-RAN where the deployment of EE-focused aspects and algorithms is discussed.

RAN openness and intelligence for 5G/6G security
2022-04-06
When it comes to the security of 5G networks, most of the attention of researchers, engineers, and practitioners are focused on cybersecurity, although attacks on the software itself are not the only problem. This blog post discusses RAN-related aspects for 5G/6G security including architecture-related risks, cybersecurity best practices, MEC, and O-RAN security opportunities.

Rimedo Labs to Integrate and Open Source TS xApp with ONF’s SD-RAN
2022-03-16
Rimedo Labs has integrated an xApp into the SD-RAN RIC from ONF to demonstrate the operation of the A1 interface as defined by the O-RAN Alliance. This Is the first xApp integrated with the ONF’s SD-RAN platform utilizing the A1 interface for policy control. As part of the ONF’s SD-RAN project, the joint collaboration supports a broad range of automation services in the form of software services, called xApps by O-RAN, that run on the RAN intelligent controller (RIC).

„The O-RAN Whitepaper 2022 – RAN Intelligent Controller”
2022-03-01
RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) is one of the key elements in the O-RAN architecture, which allows feeding an „external” intelligence into the operations of the radio network. It creates a platform for which the software companies could provide per-use case AI-powered algorithms to make way for, among others, radio resources usage or procedure optimizations. This whitepaper provides an overview of the RIC, discusses its functional split into Non-Real-Time and Near-Real-Time entities along with the concept and examples of rApps and xApps.

V2X within the 3GPP standards – Physical Layer, Radio Resource Allocation, Synchronization, and QoS Management
2022-02-03
This post presents a more detailed description of the sidelink radio interfaces proposed in LTE-V2X (Release 14/15) and its successor – NR-V2X. The focus will be mostly on the physical layer and radio resource allocation aspects, with some information on the synchronization possibilities and Quality-of-Service (QoS) management, also provided.
